Hello,

Try slaving it with a functioning computer. Take out the crashed hard drive and get a matching adapter with usb port for it. Plug it to a functioning computer through the usb. if the hard drive is not totally damaged, you will see all your files. Copy them to a different storage medium. Then you can proceed from there.

Your question is lack of information:
1. What kind of backup? 800xA full system backup or Control Builder project only?
2. What did you mean under "recover program from CPU"? PLC? If so, what kind of PLC/CPU?
3. Was that external drive or system drive (Windows with 800xA)? If that was external - why do you need backup? You have system running, so you are able backup it again.

Please clarify...

If recovered after failure 800xA system is running the last downloaded version of the project must be in the Control Structure... of course if you did not create a new system.
If you did so - contact ABB, they maybe will send a specialist with PLC memory dumping and conversion toolkit on your site :D
