Re: BOOTP mac address can't show problem
Hello,
yes it's not so easy to find out the address.
One method for determining the IP address of an unknown device on a small known-scope system is to use Wireshark to listen to the traffic or for ARP packets when
the device joins the network (cycling power usually gives you a good starting point).
You can also use the seial port - it's DF1 - but you need some cable and perhaps serial-usb-adapter.
I will ask Rockwell - what to do with a missing IP-adress.
Thanks

Re: BOOTP mac address can't show problem
Hello,
the Compact logix 1769-L32E has already an IP-address - see the LED of MS/NS in a previous post.
So BOOTP is not working - it's only working if the part has no IP-address.
I get some information from Rockwell tomorrow or on Wednesday and I write i here.
Thanks
George

--- And that another problem he gives me a message :

Re: BOOTP mac address can't show problem
Hello,
I look for your message - and that shows - cable not correct or usb - seriell connection is not working.
The pins of the cable are:
2 - 2
3 - 3
4 - 4
5 - 5
7 - 7
8 - 8
For the seriell - usb you need some configuration in the settings of the computer. That means there is a point, that COM1 is now your usb-connection. Are you doing this?
Here you get some values for the RSLinx AB_DF1-1 driver
COM-Port: COM1 (or what you configure)
Device: Logix 5550 / CompactLogix
Baudrate: 19200
Seriell Number: 00
Parity: None
Error checking: BCC
Stop Bits: one
Protocol: Full Duplex
You get today also an instruction with Wireshark.
Thanks
Georg

Re: BOOTP mac address can't show problem
Hello,
I found this:
Procedures for obtaining COM port number can be applied based on Operating Systems.
For Windows XP:
Right mouse click on My Computer and choose Properties.
Go to the Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager.
In the list of devices scroll down to Ports (COM and LPT) and expand it.
You will see the USB to Serial device listed with a Comm Port number referenced such as COM 5.
Note: the Comm Port number that has been assigned to this device.
Configuring the RSLinx Classic Driver
Start RSLinx Classic and go to Communications-->Configure Drivers.
Under Available Driver Types, choose RS-232 DF1 devices and click Add New.
Click OK on the default name of AB_DF1-#, where the # is the driver instance.
Set the following parameters.
Note: Some USB to Serial converters may not support the Auto-configure option.
Comm Port: COM 5 (or whatever comm port that was assigned to the USB to Serial device in Device Manager).
Device: Logix 5550 / CompactLogix
Baud Rate: 19200
Station Number: 00
Parity: None
Error Checking: CRC
Stop Bits: 1
Protocol: Full Duplex
You can try using the Auto-Config button. If it fails double check the settings above.
Click OK and the AB_DF1 driver should show as Running.
Close the Configure Drivers window.
Go to Communications-->RSWho, double-click the AB_DF1 driver
Hope this helps also
