S7-300 firmware upgrade question

Dear Helper.
I have S7-300 315-2AG10-0ABO and currently it has an old firmware version 2.0.8. I would like to upgrade to latest which is 2.6.11. The problem I only have the SD card came with the CPU. Can I back the image using tool such as WinHex or S7imag. Then load the new fimrware version and download to the controller. Then restore the backup image. Do you think it is going to work. Currently I'm using TIA V15 and the instruction for format the card is not available. I'm not sure how to go from here.
